Tour Championship win could net Scott POY
Adam Scott
ATLANTA – It is a measure of how much things have changed that Adam Scott, a half dozen years removed from his lone victory at East Lake, considers this week something of a defining moment of his season.
“It’s been a great year for sure, but I think this week counts so much for me and how the year will be remembered by myself and others, for that matter,” Scott said. “There’s so much to play for. Two trophies here this week. And also potentially throwing my name in a Player of the Year debate, which I think is quite a prestigious honor amongst the company that I play golf against.”
If Scott wins this week’s Tour Championship, and the FedEx Cup, some players have said he would be the most-likely candidate for the Player of the Year Award, which will be announced Sept. 27.

Tiger Woods, a five-time winner in 2013, and Phil Mickelson, whose two victories include a major (Open Championship) and the Waste Management Phoenix Open, along with his Scottish Open win on the European Tour, are the other two leading candidates for the award.
In 2006, the year before the FedEx Cup era began, Scott won the Tour Championship, finished second at The Barclays, T-21 in Chicago and T-50 at the Deutsche Bank Championship, but was easily beaten by Woods in the Player of the Year voting. In short, he would have been that season’s FedEx Cup champion.
By comparison, Woods won the Deutsche Bank, tied for second at the Western Open and didn’t play the Barclays or Tour Championship.
