Woods eyes first Player of Year Award since 2009

ATLANTA – In 2006, Tiger Woods skipped the Tour Championship, won the Player of the Year Award, the money title and virtually every other season-ending award.

On Tuesday at East Lake, the world No. 1 quickly rattled through how times have changed.

“This tournament has a lot of value to it. There are guys who have won a couple times but they've had major championships in there. I've won five times,” Woods said. “It's up for grabs for the Player of the Year (Award), the Arnold Palmer Award, the Vardon Trophy and all those things.”

Woods has won the Player of the Year Award 10 times, but not since 2009, and this week’s finale could separate a field that includes Woods, Adam Scott and Phil Mickelson.

“The Player of the Year Award is something we hold dearly because it's the respect of our peers. It's voted on by our peers,” Woods said. “I've had my years over the course of my career, and hopefully this will be another one.”
